Ice Kacang ....

Monday usually is boring for everyone especially at work & try to rush off asap - but not for me as I had a great Monday by watching this movie below "Ice Kacang Puppy Love" - Ah Nui's movie debut. The story is simple but you won't feel bored in this one. The movie brought you back to your childhood (80's), you will surely reminisce over those old authentic coffee shops and favorite childhood pastimes like "guli", fish fighting and having a bowl of Ice Kacang full of syrup and beans. Ah Nui actually placed quite a lot of effort into this movie.

Good thing he has got the right people to do it and by directing this movie bringing it up to the big screens, I must say it open up my eyes that singing is not his only talent. The movie features a few World Heritage Sites in Penang as well - filled with pretty much of funny scenes, this movie will have you laughing at times. Definitely a film to watch for all , especially to those who went through their childhood.

After the truly wonderful bittersweet film, I had my share by ordering a bowl of Ice Kacang (pix below) but it does not taste as good as when I had my share during childhood or even look a like but I had a sweet night after all..

Everybody's Fine

It was a quiet weekend for me as I was at home most of the time after spending a great night at Sheila's farewell a day before. My mum was in town but I didn't actually go out with her beside sending her to her friend's place at Dua Residency and sent her off to station back to Penang. She is in KL because she would like to catch up with her old friend before she (her friend) fly back to BKK for good and say hello to me :).

So I'm free for the weekend but I didn't make it to anywhere except in my room and getting bored. Suddenly I felt like watching a movie by myself but where - not the living room as I was not comfortable due to the heat as I need somewhere cozy, cinema?? no no no I'm lazy as I mentioned - at last I settled with a movie after run thru the DVD collections I owned and found out a movie called Everybody's Fine staring Robert De Niro and Drew Barrymore. The cover seem interesting - comedy during x'mas time. But it ended up this way; Ironically, Not Everybody's Fine in this, Nevertheless, Very Fine Movie! I think this movie re-affirms that adult children have no clue about "who their parents are.
In the movie, DeNiro is now alone after the death of his wife. He plans a cookout, buys a new grill, everything you can imagine to make it a perfect day for his four grown children. Then the calls start coming in, all "can't make it." You see the sadness and let down after his great effort to get his family together. But instead of wallowing in his disappointment, he decides to go and see "what's going on" with his children, trying to make it a surprise visit. This is the interesting part, his children are obviously afraid of his disapproval and act accordingly. The result, the children have no time for him and even keep a secret about their brother. So many parents will relate to this movie! Sad to say, this is reality played out. We learn the truth along the film - There are deep emotions and more real-life family baggage than most will care to admit.

Aside from the mostly atrocious music, this one is an emotional tug-fest that will stimulate a bit of self-analysis from all parents. I would definitely recommend seeing this one... base on personal interest. Mum I will be back soon...

Just Another Thursday

It was a slow day yesterday but it speed-up during night time as I have the chance to dine with one of my best friend at Pavilion, Island Bistro. It is a fusion restaurant but somehow the food rating has drop a little. Here are some of the so called best rating choice, sorry the pix was not so clear due to my megapixel.

Pineapple Rice - Ok (but not the fried soft shell crab)
Black Pepper Fried Glass Noddle - So So
Cendol - Didn't meet my expectation as they used Santan from the box
Fried Chicken - Should be the best among the choices above

Grill Wings

I love chicken wings no matter if it's roasted, grill, fried, steam or even cook in curry, I'll just eat them all - that's how much love I give to chicken wings. Here are one of the old store at Peel Road called Ah Wah Grill Wings - looks delicious but still not as good as the one I tasted before in Penang and Ipoh but not to forget the one from Cheras by a Malay (you can see the pix on my FB thru here http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1124177&l=6d150ac095&id=1067819661). Anyway if you are chicken wings lover, you should go and try it out, who knows you will like it.

Tasik Indah

Welcome dish
Fresh Coconut - is COLD!
Asparagus Belachan - Hot and yummy!
Kam Heong Crab - You will bite your tongue
Marmite Chicken - I bet you will even wanna eat the plate :)

Many years back when I never have a chance to visit this lake side restaurant until last weekend whereby I had a dinner with my friend. The restaurant is halal and you will be surprise with their service and not to forget to food is yummy even thou is halal. You may not want to believe by looking at the pix above but you have to come and try it yourself. We had the captain recommendation dishes and it was way our expectation and the portion is big. The crab is a must there as most of the tables have a crab dish. I should go for fish the next time I visit them again as it looks delicious when they served the table next to us. Writting on this makes me feel hungry, arghhhh! If you plan to go around dinner time, then you don't have to call for reservation as they have plenty of seats waiting for you but if you plan to go around 8pm++ then you better be sure to call them up as people is pouring in non-stop. Bon Appetite! Tel: 603-55199388
